Add 50K to your house value in just one week

New research released by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) and the HomeOwners Alliance (HOA) and supported by the Guild of Property Professionals, has indicated that it can be possible to add up to £50,000 to the value of a home in just seven days.

The research focused on those projects that can add the most value in the shortest space of time. These include removing an internal wall to create a kitchen/diner, building an outside garden room, adding new flooring, a new worktop and new cabinet doors to a kitchen, converting an understairs cupboard into a toilet, creating an ensuite in the master bedroom, adding a new driveway and installing decking and lighting to a garden area. These projects can add between £8,000 and £48,000 to the value of a home and can be completed in a matter of days.

The Chief Executive of the FMB, Brian Berry has stated that the investment of less than £3,500 (in the case of creating a kitchen diner) can add a huge £50,000 to the value of the home in just one week and that this can benefit those who are looking to move up the property ladder. He says that low cost/ high-value projects can make a property more pleasant to live in and increase its value.

Berry also points out that with improved weather just around the corner, now is the time to commission home improvement projects. He recommends using the FMB “find a builder” service to find vetted and registered builders.

Paula Higgins, the Chief Executive of the HOA agrees that the research is encouraging as it shows that homeowners can improve their homes and get a huge financial boost when it comes to selling. She recommends contacting experts to ensure that the return on the investment will be worthwhile. She points out that local estate agents are a good source of information about maximising potential.
